Whoa! Doesn’t this sound like an awesome prospect, the idea that you can make money online whilst tucked up in bed. You may think that this is not achievable, or that only special people with some super skill can make money online while sleeping.

The reality is, that yes, it sure is possible, but you’ll need some kind of knowledge to thrust yourself into this venture. There are many ways to make money online, but some of them are either unsustainable, or don’t offer the kind of income that is worth the effort put in.

In my opinion, there are two choices that will offer the opportunity to make money online whilst snoozing away. Each of them can be branched out into different directions. This is because different social channels offer more audience potential.

For instance, my favourite type of money making opportunity is affiliate marketing. This can be achieved via a website, but also via YouTube, with no requirement for a website.

For now though, let’s get into how you can make money online, while sleeping in through the night.

The Joy of Overnight Payments

Just imagine it, waking up each morning and checking your PayPal account on your phone, to find multiple payments have been made to you. This is not fantasy, it’s what many of us affiliate marketers wake up to everyday.

I used to be an engineering draftsperson, working for a typical wage where I got paid the same money depending on what hours I worked. Often this required a few extra hours per week, but I still received the same wage, which wasn’t huge.

I’m an affiliate marketer so I am a bit biased with this assessment, but I believe that this is the ultimate online business model. Why so?

• The majority of businesses out there now have an affiliate program to help drive sales. Getting affiliate marketers to promote their business makes good business sense, so why wouldn’t they.
• This opportunity is only growing as the online world grows. There’s over 2 billion internet users worldwide, and trillions of dollars are now spent on online sales.
• There are affiliate programs for every niche you can think of. Whether it’s retail, education, financial, insurance, building, gardening or anything else, there is an affiliate program that you can promote.
• The setup costs are minimal, so anyone can get started with little capital.
• There’s no need to worry about sales taxes, shipping, returns or customer complaints, this is all taken care of by the merchant company you’re an affiliate to.
• Commissions range from small (where you can sell lots of a product, like books), to huge (where you’ll sell a limited number, such as yacht charters). Commissions can vary based on a set fee or percentage.

The benefits to this online business model, are that anyone can try their hand at it, and there are no limits to how much you can make in commissions or how many sales you make. It all depends on how hard you work at your business.

What Makes Affiliate Marketing so Sustainable

I’ve touched on this above, but the fact that so many sales are made online, is the driving factor behind the sustained growth in this industry. You only need to look around you when on public transport, to see people purchasing online via their smartphone.

With all major companies, and hundreds of thousands of smaller companies now with an associated affiliate program, the sustainability factor is assured and not going to disappear anytime soon.

I suppose nobody really knows what technology will come along in the future, but as long as the internet is around and companies are selling products, this opportunity will continue to thrive.

These are the basic steps that will give you overnight profits.

Step 1 – The first thing you need to do is get educated in affiliate marketing and SEO. You can find snippets of information via Google searches or YouTube videos. Alternatively, get all the information required at Wealthy Affiliate.

Step 2 – Choose a niche to build your website around. You may have a passion for building & construction, maybe financials and budgeting. Some of the most popular blog topics are weight loss or pets, so you could begin a website based on these, and inform your readers about new information and product reviews.

Step 3 – Build your website. The easiest way to do this is by using WordPress. If you join Wealthy Affiliate (which you can try for free), you can create a WordPress website with them for free. Learn your way around the dashboard, and how to write articles to build up your website.

Step 4 – Keep writing informative articles that will be helpful to your target audience. If you’re niche is about a breed of dog, write about that breed, answering questions that you audience may want to know.

Step 5 – Make sure your articles are SEO friendly (and use this SEO plugin) with internal/external links, keywords, tags and metadata. This is what will allow your articles to rank highly in search engines such as Google.

Step 6 – Once you’ve signed up to affiliate programs, add affiliate links to your product reviews, so that when a visitor clicks on the link, they’ll be taken to where the product can be purchased. This is how you’ll be making commissions overnight.

Step 7 – Be consistent, patient and stay motivated. This is where many new affiliate marketers fall down, they give up because they are not seeing results. Push through this barrier keep writing new articles. The website traffic will come in good time.

Step 8 – The more web traffic you get, the more sales you’ll make. This is the time to sleep soundly and wake up to find people have been purchasing the products you’ve been reviewing over the last few months. The profits will only start to build from now on, because you’ve laid the foundation to a new online business.

Although the above steps are the formula that affiliate marketing works by, learning step-by-step how it all comes together can be a minefield. Of course, you can get snippets of information from YouTube or other websites, but often you can find conflicting or just wrong information.

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but if you’re looking for a way to make money fast on the internet, forget it. Firstly, there’s no such way this can be done.

There are thousands of searches each month with people looking to make a fast buck. Affiliate marketing is not a get rich quick opportunity that will allow you to make money within a couple of months.

It’s a long term sustainable online business model that will set you up for future wealth. It’s always a hard question to answer, the length of time it takes to build a profitable online affiliate marketing business.

This is because some people will have more time to work on their affiliate marketing business than others. It can take time for Google to rank your website and various posts that promote products, so you need a long term outlook.

Here’s a few things you’ll require to become a successful affiliate marketer

• Persistence
• Patience
• Motivation
• Consistency
• Willingness to learn
• Determination

Honestly, other than this there’s not much else required. The majority of people fail because they are not patient enough and expect results before they are going to happen.

If you’re in a very popular niche, it could be possible that you’ll be building your website foundation for up to six months before you see the benefits. This is where the patience comes in.
