With various options to make money online, selling product on Amazon is a hugely popular choice. But while thousands of people attempt this feat, not all are successful. I suppose it’s like any method of making money online, a small percent will succeed but most will fail miserably.

So, how to be successful at selling products on Amazon? Yes, it’s more difficult than you’d imagine when first starting out. It’s amazing how many people will tell you it’s easy, just because they’ve had minor success. Truth be told, there’s more to it than just uploading a few products and waiting for the good times to arrive.

I’m going to give you a few tips that I hope hold you in good stead to forge a successful career selling Amazon products.

Tip 1 – Get Educated

As much as I’d like you to have the ability to just go in all-guns-blazing, you really don’t want to mess this up because it could cost you a lot of dollars. If you’re extremely confident you know what steps are to be taken, then I’m not going to persuade you otherwise.

However, if you’re unsure of the process required to make it big in the Amazon world of fulfillment, then I’d certainly recommend an education.

Now, I know you could head over to short course platforms and pay $25 for a course that somebody has slapped together, but you get what you pay for. I know these courses only provide the basics of what to do, not the nitty gritty of how to master the details.

Tip 2 – Understand This is NOT Just a Hobby

Because of the time, money and effort you’ll be putting into this venture, I wouldn’t consider it a hobby. Unlike affiliate marketing where you can start off small and grow as your website traffic increases, selling products on Amazon requires a return on your investment reasonably quickly to make it worthwhile.

There are more costs involved, which I’ll get to in a minute, which means you will need to recoup these costs much earlier than other online ventures.

The time required for selling products through the Amazon platform, takes longer than my preferred model of affiliate marketing, but there are huge benefits. The main benefit being the potential for tremendous profits. We all like to make money from the effort we put into our online exploits, and you will get more bang for your buck if you get this right (which is why I suggest an education).

So, my advice is to NOT go into this blindly thinking that it’s a bit of fun, and if it takes of…good and well. If this is your thought process, I’d advise affiliate marketing where your startup costs are much less, and your enterprise can grow as your website or blog becomes more authoritative.

Tip 3 – Bigger Outlay But Bigger Profits

As I’ve mentioned, the costs are not cheap when beginning a career selling goods on Amazon. Firstly as I’ve suggested, I’d advise an education. The course I suggest doesn’t come cheap, but you know you’ll be given the most correct information that is up to date.

Some of the costs you’ll incur are Amazon Fulfilment fees, Amazon seller account, paid advertising plus other optional costs such as your own hosted website, product sourcing software etc.

So sure, there are costs involved but with high risk comes high reward. Should you follow a good educational course then there’s really no reason why you cannot become highly successful at selling your own products on Amazon.

Set yourself a budget and a time limit to make back your initial investment. Don’t make these limits too stringent, because if this is really what you want to do, then give it your best shot. Don’t go in half-hearted with a couple of hundred dollars, it just won’t work.

Creating a new career online can be one of the most rewarding things you can do, especially if you’re disgruntled in your current place of employment. I believe there are several options to make very good coin online, and selling on Amazon is one of them.

Of course, there’s other options like affiliate marketing (which is what I do), or starting your own online dropshipping store. Maybe selling your own products on your own eCommerce store.
