Update: As a brief update to this article, I just wanted to alert you to the current social impacts that affect MLM opportunities. Multilevel marketing consultants primarily work by hosting house parties to present and demonstrate products to potential customers. As social distancing has become apparent, these hosted house parties or events can no longer go ahead.

Instead, companies with MLM opportunities are turning to sales online to keep their consultants active. What's ironic about this, is that they are basically turning it into an affiliate marketing venture. However, consultants will only be allowed to sell the products of the MLM company they are involved with.

So, the choice now is owning a website and only selling one companies products, or own a website and sell any products you like (eg: traditional affiliate marketing). I know what I'd be choosing!

In fact, in most cases, the MLM company will still own the website. I've seen instances where they will give it to you free for 3 months, then you have to pay for it. eg: domain & hosting fees. This will be on top of other MLM fees. This is not the case with genuine affiliate marketing, where YOU own your own website.

What is Premier Designs Jewelry

The Premier Designs jewelry company claims that they are not just about jewelry, they are about a lifestyle. They say that having a Premier business is more than selling jewelry, it’s also about impacting the world around you.

While this all sounds lovely, most people that want to join Premier Designs will want to be earning money, and this will be their primary reason for joining.

The Premier Designs Jewelry store sells more or less, plated gold and silver jewelry. Their price point is at the lower end, with a price range of ‘$75 and less’ being their largest cost point. They say that their catalog includes more than 700 pieces of jewelry, with an average item retailing for about $34.

The mantra that Premier Designs jewelry goes by is that “the emphasis is on serving rather than selling”. It seems that the company is also in touch with their biblical side, which you can see when you read about the principals they go by.

Is Premier Designs Jewelry a Scam Principals

The company has been around since 1985, so obviously they are doing something right in terms of their customer base. While they are a direct sales jewelry company, there’s also the opportunity to become a Premier Designs ‘Family member”. Here’s how you go about this.

How Does Premier Designs Jewelry Work

We’re talking about becoming a Premier Designs Jewelry independent distributor (Jeweler), or consultant. In fact I’ve heard several titles that have been used, what about a beauty guide like at LimeLife, or a representative at World Ventures.

Anyway, I digress.

To begin as a Premier Designs Jewelry consultant, you’ll be required to purchase one of their boutique kit packages. This will set you back $395 or $795, depending on your budgeting situation.

Premier Designs Jewelry Packages

Alternatively, you could pay $45 per month for the retail jewelry, and another $25 for business essentials. This is known as their ‘Shine’ plan, and will give you a personal website on which to promote.

What’s Included in The Boutique Packages

Each of these boutique packages comes with inclusions. Here’s what you’ll get:

Simple Sparkle Pack

  • $300 in retail jewelry
  • $50 in business essentials

Luxe Launch

  • $1,500 in retail jewelry
  • $200 in business essentials

Is this the end of the costings? Not likely. There’s also an annual fee of $350, which is considered a renewal licence.

Premier Designs Jewelry Renewal Fee

Obviously you’ll be needing to make money rather than just outlying expenses, so how is this going to be achieved? You’ll have two options to earn from Premier Designs.

Firstly, there’s the direct sales commissions. The primary commission percentage is very good, and stands at 50% for each product sold. As the products are not all that expensive in the first place, your earned commissions may not be as large as first thought.

It also begs the question, what are these jewelry pieces actually worth.

The second method of creating earnings is via the MLM part of the business. Here’s a brief look at how the MLM structure looks.

Premier Designs Jewelry Payment Structure

Multi level marketing has been around for a long time now, and it’s based on a tiered payment structure. These MLM payment structures are always more confusing than first estimations indicate.

What MLM’s involve though, is recruiting others to sell as part of your downline. So, for each sale made from somebody you recruit, you will make a commission from that sale. It’s only a smallish percentage though, so you really need several people to be selling consistently to make it worth your while.

I’m not going to delve into the ‘nitty gritty’ of the compensation structure, but I’ll touch on a few things. To begin with, it’s noted that the tiered commission rates for sales made by your recruits is 10%. This goes 4 levels deep, with you being the first level.

So, referrals from your recruits can also make you 10% commission. And their recruits will also net you another 10%. This is where you’ll have to rely on your recruits to make sales, which can be a challenge keeping them motivated.

Having read the policies & procedures, there seems to be areas of murkiness. Here’s what I mean:

Premier Designs Jewelry Sponsoring

So, if I understand this correctly, for you to receive your 10% commission, your “jeweler” (or recruit) must have completed 6 months of service and submitted $1,000 in commission volume. Along with this, YOU must have generated at least $300 commission volume by the last day of each month.

All of a sudden, this doesn’t seem as easy to net your 10% commissions from your downline does it.

Other Premier Designs Rules

I did notice a few guidelines that you must also follow. To sell jewelry products, one of the methods you’ll be encouraged to engage in, is house parties. This is probably the most common form of MLM engagement with people.

Now, there’s a policy that some of you may not be too happy with, I know I wouldn’t. It’s the Alcohol Policy!

Premier Designs Jewelry Alcohol Policy

At no event or function can you serve or consume alcohol. What the! So even though you may have your own house party, you will not be allowed a little tipple. How else are you supposed to entice people to come around! Obviously I say this in jest, but it does seem peculiar that you cannot serve a drink of alcohol at your own house party.

MLM Success Is Rare

Everyone has their own opinions on MLM schemes, and this includes me. Although I am not a big fan, I’d rather back this up from more expert opinions. Like the AARP, who conducted a poll in 2017 which discovered that only one-quarter of participants in an MLM opportunity made a profit. And of that quarter, 53% make less than $5,000.

This is also backed by PRNewswire who also conducted an independent survey. They state that from the 20 million Americans that get involved in an MLM company, 47% lose money, and another 27% make no profit at all.

One other source that has more staggering results is from a gentleman called Jon M. Taylor MBA, Ph.D., from the Consumer Awareness Institute. He claims that only 1% of people that join an MLM are profitable. Here’s a link to Jon’s article that states this.

Why is it that so many people that attempt to earn money from an MLM scheme don’t make a profit? I believe there are two reasons for this.

  • Those at the top of any MLM chain reap the most, as they claim a proportion of many downlines.
  • The finer details of the payment structure includes factors that are harder to achieve than first thought.

Similar to the commission volume (CV) that must be reached for you to actually receive a commission check.

Typical MLM Structure

The above image shows a typical MLM payment structure, where those at the top are the ones to reap most of the profits. These are usually the founders of the company and/or those heavily invested. As a beginner, I believe you’ll find MLM’s hard going.

Premier Designs Bonuses and Rewards

Premier Designs jewelry does offer some incentives and rewards for your hard work. In my opinion, I don’t believe they are that big of an enticement to strive for. There’s also a good chance that they may be well out of reach for most people.

Jewelry Club Charms

For instance, you’ll get a ‘jewelry show club charm’ for reaching 25 jewelry shows within a 120 day period. While this is achievable, it will also take a lot of hard work. That’s more than 1 jewelry show per week.

From there, the awards rise with more jewelry shows. 100, 250, 500, 750 and 1,000 jewelry shows, will give you a new club charm. Whoop-de-do.

Crown Jewels

I’ve spoken about the CV (commission volume) that needs to be reached to make decent commissions. If you are an outstanding seller, you can strive to achieve these awards.

  • Amethyst level – You’ll need $3,000 qualifying CV in any 30-consecutive-day period. For this, you’ll receive a $200 retail jewelry certificate Amethyst Level award charm.
  • Sapphire Level – $6,000 qualifying CV to receive $400 award charm
  • Ruby Level – $9,000 qualifying CV to receive $600 award charm
  • Emerald Level – $12,000 qualifying CV to receive $800 award charm

Sure, these are incentives that you can strive for, and many people need this kind of enticement to push themselves. Realistically though, only a very small amount of people will get past the first levels.

Premier Designs Jewelry Reviews

It can sometimes be hard to get a handle on some companies by browsing through reviews. Glassdoor and Trust Pilot are two sites I use to see what involvement users have experienced.

Glassgoor shows a 3.7 star rating out of 5, but as you can see in the image below, the rating has significantly dropped since 2018.

Premier Designs Jewelry Ratings

This could be for several reasons, but I suspect people come back to modify their review after experiencing the program for a while. So they initially leave a good review, then realise it’s not what they thought it was.

I’ll show you a balanced view of the reviews that people have left, so you can decide for yourself.

Premier Designs Jewelry Reviews

Reviews can give you a better feel for a company, and there’s a few here that aren’t very complementary. Having said that, other reviews have said that you have to work hard to make it happen, which is true.

Maybe those that are disgruntled just don’t work hard enough. This is a job after all.

Profiting From MLM's Are No Longer Viable

A Different Model Of Income Can Earn You Thousand$ Monthly

Is Premier Designs Jewelry a Scam

Premier Designs is no different from any other MLM scheme. They are NOT a scam, but that doesn’t mean they are a great option to make money.

If you have a real passion for jewelry and are of a religious nature, you may find this to be a suitable fit for yourself. I believe the direct selling to be a better source of income than the MLM part of the company. This can net you 50% for each sale.

The problem that you may find is that the jewelry prices are not that high. This means that your 50% commissions may not cover your costs involved. Remember, you’ll be encouraged to host parties. This can cost you in food and drink (not alcohol though!).

So, you’ll then have to make these costs back before making any profit. This is partly the reason so many people struggle when joining MLM programs.

Is There a Better Opportunity

You’re probably reading this review because you love jewelry and would like a way to make money by selling jewelry pieces. This is totally understandable, we’d all like to work in our passion.

If you were to ask me though, I’d recommend becoming an affiliate marketer. This way you can sell jewelry online, without being stuck selling Premier Designs jewelry exclusively.

I stated earlier that there is an option to get your own website for $45 per month at Premier Designs. This will cover your web hosting fees. The problem here is that you will not be allowed to promote jewelry from other stores.

If you were to become an independent affiliate marketer, you can create your own website and promote luxury jewelry that costs thousands. Imagine the commissions you can make when somebody buys a gold watch or diamond ring.

You could create a website targeting wedding jewelry. Then join up to multiple jewelry affiliate programs and promote any “bling” that suits your website. In my opinion, this is a much better solution than hosting parties where you will be lucky to make your money back.

Where Do You learn Affiliate Marketing

I’ve reviewed countless programs and courses on this website, and as far as affiliate marketing goes, there is one standout. You can read my Wealthy Affiliate review here, who will teach you everything there is to know about affiliate marketing.

They will even host your website, and you can create your website with their website builder. This is all included in the membership fee, which is similar to what Premier Designs is asking for a simple website. It’ll even cost you much less if you take up the annual fee.

All the affiliate training is included, as are any tools required to get ahead. There are no hidden fees, the cost is the cost. You can even try it out FREE for a week to see if this is a good fit for you. What do you have to lose!

My Verdict

Premier Designs is not a scam, it’s a legitimate business that has been around since 1985. Do I think joining their program to become a “Jeweler” consultant will be worth your while? Only if you are in it for love. This is not the best program to make money.

Selling jewelry can be enriching, but you need money to survive. In my opinion, you’ll have a much better chance of making more money with an affiliate marketing website.

Oh, and as an alternative, you could set up your own online eCommerce store and try dropshipping.

I hope this Premier Designs review has helped you out.

Like many people, I struggled in my early attempts to make money online. It's really frustrating when you try product after product, searching for that elusive opportunity that is really genuine.

Eventually though, I learned how to achieve success in the online world with my own website. This website was created to show others how to do it. I direct people away from the poor opportunities and advise the good ones.

But the simplest and least complicated is [Learn more...]
