Etsy Affiliate Program Review
So you’re on the lookout for a new affiliate program and you’ve recently considered Etsy. You’ll be glad to hear that Etsy does have an affiliate program, which offers you a brilliant opportunity to sell uniquely made products.
That’s the wonderful thing about Etsy, the platform hosts so many unusual and unique items for sale which customers adore. Because of this uniqueness, your offered a great opportunity to make good commissions from varied genres.
Modern streamlined products don’t appeal to everyone, and as somebody that may run a vintage online website, the Etsy affiliate program may be an ideal partnership. Transactions are made by secure in-class technology, meaning your commissions can safely be stored.
You’ll get great support from the Etsy affiliate team which can translate in several languages including English, French, Italian, Spanish and German.
Just about anyone can apply to the Etsy affiliate program, and it seems that only those with cashback sites, voucher sites or advertising networks will be ineligible to apply. This also applies to price comparison sites and social sharing sites.
How Can You Make Money Via Etsy
The first thing you’re going to need to do is sign up to AWIN. This is the affiliate network that Etsy uses to manage their affiliate program. I really like AWIN as an affiliate network and they are a well respected company.
In June 2017, AWIN acquired another large and successful affiliate network called SahreaSale. While the ShareaSale site still looks as it did in the past, you will notice a small addition under the ShareaSale Logo
So, it’s now possible to sign up to the Etsy affiliate program under the AWIN affiliate network, or the ShareaSale affiliate network. As an example, I’ll show you the AWIN method.
Once signed in, use the dropdown menu to navigate to Advertisers>Join Programmes.
Then you can simply do a search for ‘Etsy’. There are various affiliate programs that will appear dependant on your location. You’ll notice that it’s possible to filter your search options, including by region. So best to include the location that suits you.
You’ll be able to see the various advertiser statistics including conversion rates, approval rate, average payment time etc. Click the ‘plus sign’ to join your appropriate affiliate program.
Now it’s simply a matter of waiting to be approved by Etsy themselves. Once you have been approved, you’ll have a range of tools available to promote Etsy products. You can create deep links to specific product pages, or send people directly to the Etsy homepage with your general unique affiliate link.

What Products Can You Sell
If you enjoy promoting products that are more unique than stock standard, you’ll really enjoy utilising the Etsy platform. There are loads of hand made and precision items that have been crafted by individuals, making these products much more rare that what you’ll find through somewhere like Amazon.
This platform helps talented people out by offering them a place to sell their wares, and the range of goods available is extremely broad. There are 8 main categories that Etsy promotes, these being:
- Jewellery & Accessories
- Clothing & Shoes
- Home & Living
- Wedding & Party
- Toys & Entertainment
- Art & Collectables
- Craft Supplies
Along with this, they have a section for gifts which encompasses a variety of products that would make the ideal gift. In fact, Etsy is the perfect site to pick up that fantastic gift for somebody because the chances of the recipient already having the same item, is almost zero.
Here’s Etsy’s own statement about what they sell – ‘Etsy provides a marketplace for crafters, artists and collectors to sell their handmade creations, vintage goods (at least 20 years old) and both handmade and non-handmade crafting supplies.’
What I have noticed, is that the products sold on Etsy are of very good quality. There is a review system on Etsy which I believe helps with keeping sellers honest and credible. Sellers don’t want their reputation tarnished which is why I’m of the opinion that the majority of products sold on Etsy are quality craftsmanship.
The Etsy Commission Rates
What I really like about the Etsy affiliate commission, is that no matter where your sales come from, you will still receive a commission. This means that if I sell on the US Etsy store, I can still receive commissions as an Australian affiliate.
This is in contrast to the Amazon affiliate program, where unless you sign up to the various Amazon country stores and use ‘Onelink’ to link them all together, you won’t receive commissions from the global stores.
As far as the commission rates go, it depends on the country that you’re an affiliate under. This can vary from 4% up to 8%. Most hover around the 5% mark, which is a standard commission rate. Some of the more common countries have the following commission rates at the time of writing this review
- US – 4%
- Canada – 5%
- UK – 5%
- Europe 5%
- Australia – 5%
Some people may consider these commission rates fairly minor, but you will find that many products sold on Etsy are not cheap. Because there is a lot of time and effort put into making these items, the cost can easily run into the hundreds.
For instance, I promote fire pits on one of my websites. These fire pits are worth thousands of dollars each. If you click on the fire pit below, you’ll see that it’s worth nearly $3k.
So when you think of a 5% commission, that’s $150 per sale that I make. Imaging selling 3 of these of these per day. No, I don’t sell that many, but I’m sure some people would.
Website/Blog Ideas to Sell
Unlike more specialised or focused affiliate programs, you can just about build any blog around the Etsy affiliate program. With so many categories, there are multiple genres that can be harnessed.
For instance, Etsy has a huge array of wedding products. Just imagine how many different types of wedding themed blogs can be created, with so many affiliate products to leverage.
As I’ve stated on this website many times, choosing a niche that is too broad is not a good idea, as your competition becomes so much harder. It’s better to focus on a more narrow niche, like tropical weddings for instance. Maybe weddings for the disabled or English garden weddings.
Once you begin blogging about your chosen niche, offer wedding product ideas and link them to your product reviews.
Within this same category is party products. So why not start a blog about adult dress-up parties (not that I’d be a fan!), Star Wars parties (yep, check out the Star Wars range on Etsy), bachelor parties etc.
Seriously, there are so many niches to choose from to begin an affiliate marketing website around. Keep reading below if you want to learn how.
My Awin Chrome Extension
To help with easily grabbing your affiliate links, AWIN has a Chrome extension if you’re working via Google Chrome. To add this extension, head over to the Toolbox dropdown menu, and go down to ‘MyAwin Chrome Extension’.
You’ll be taken to the Google Chrome Store to download the AWIN Chrome extension. Click on ‘Add to Chrome’, then ‘Add Extension’.
Once installed, go to any Etsy page you want to generate an affiliate link from, and click the AWIN logo in the Chrome browser. A dialog box will appear like the one below.
Then it’s just a matter of clicking ‘Generate Tracking Link’ to receive your affiliate link for the page you’re ready to promote.
Pros & Cons or the Etsy Affiliate Program
As with just about anything, there’s usually good and bad features with joining any affiliate program. Here’s a snapshot of my thoughts with Etsy. While I tried to think of a poor reason to join, there’s really no downside.
- Decently priced products meaning decent commissions
- Huge range of products on Etsy platform
- MyAwin Chrome extension make getting affiliate links easy
- If I’m being picky, you could get a little lost within the AWIN platform, but you shouldn’t really.
